Accidents decline in Nkhatabay

In Nkhatabay district, road accidents have decreased by 50 percent in the first quarter of the year 2024, police say.

This is according to quarterly report which indicates that in the first 3 mints of the year 2024,7 road accidents have been recorded as compare to 14 which were recorded in the same period in the year 2023.

In an interview with MIJ Online Kondwani, James spokesperson for Nkhatabay Police said this is due to a number of factors including the introduction of alcohol content detecting machine (Breathalyzer) as well as intensive traffic checks by traffic police officers in all accident prone areas.

He said the two have led to reduced incidents of driving under three influence of alcohol and overspeeding thus leading to a reduction in road accidents.

According to James, the accidents have led to 3 deaths as compared to 5 deaths recorded in the same period last year.

Meanwhile out of the 7 road accidents, only one road accident involved motor bike operators while last year out of 14 accidents recorded in the same period 4 involved motor bike operators.
