Businessman Abdul Karim Batatawala will be back in court on 20th January ,2022 for plea taking after he was granted bail yesterday.
Batatawala is answering two charges of money laundering and conspiracy to defraud government.
Earlier on, the ACB objected the bail saying Batatawala might evade trial saying he might employ delaying tactics or leave the country because he is a Malawian of Asian origin.
But Senior Resident Magistrate Martin Chipofya has granted him bail on the following conditions.
The bail conditions are as follows:
- Bail bond of 8 hundred-thousand-kwacha cash.
2: Have one surity to bonded to the government of Malawi at the sum of K2.5 Million Kwacha non cash.
- Surrender travel documents.
- Not to interfere with state witness.
- Comply with state in any further investigations.
- Not to leave Blantyre without notifying ACB.
- He should be examined by an independent doctor incase he is sick.
- Report to ACB on Fridays every fortnight.
