Caution issued over cold weather

The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services has warned the public that strong Mwera winds, which started last Tuesday, will continue through the weekend.

According to the department, Mwera winds reaching speeds of 50km/h are blowing over Lake Malawi and other water bodies, posing serious risks to communities.

Speaking in an interview with MIJ Online, Lucy Mtilatila, Director of the Department, urged people living along the lakeshore to remain alert and avoid taking unnecessary risks, especially when engaging in lakeshore activities.

Mtilatila also called on the public to follow weather updates and safety advisories from relevant authorities as the strong winds persist.
