Chakwera reconstitutes MERA Board

President Lazarus Chakwera has reconstituted the board of the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority.

The reconstitution comes after the previous board members resigned following a recommendation by state house   to Public Appointments Committee of Parliament to approve their firing over alleged incompetence in hiring Henry Kachaje as the regulatory body’s Chief Executive Officer.

Chakwera has appointed Reckford Kampanje Chairperson while Innocencia Chirombo has been named as Vice Chairperson of Mara’s board.

The president has also appointed Charles Kambauwa, Lameck Mchembe and Ulemu Kambwiri as members.

As required by law, the ex officio are Ex Officio Secretary for Energy, Director of energy and the board’s Chief Executive Officer.
