The Muslim World League has hailed Group Village Head Kamondo in the area of Senior Chief Ngabu for offering temporary land for survivors of Tropical Cyclone Freddy from another village in Chikwawa district.
Speaking during the donation of relief items to the survivors Muslim World League, country representative, Shakeela Shiek Walid said other chiefs should emulate the best example set by Kamando during this difficult time.
She said: “Today we have managed to reach out to 1, 500 households in two camps through donations worth K80 million. We have donated assorted items like maize seeds, clothes, salt including cash.
On his part, GVH Kamondo said the donation is timely as the people are yet to recover from the effects.
Member of Parliament for the area Abida Mia appealed to the people to move to upper land so that they avoid risks that come with such disasters.
In Chikwawa 26, 177 households have been displaced representing 115, 386 people and 108, 242 displaced are seeking shelter in 52 camps commissioned in the district.
