Traditional leaders from Mangochi have given organizations that obtained an injunction against Mangochi water project seven days to vacate.
The Mangochi water project is expected to reach out to over one hundred thousand people from the Bishops house in Mangochi to Mtakataka turn off.
However, some cottage owners in the Lakeshore district and environmentalists have been expressing displeasure with the project saying it will interfere with UNESCO’s world heritage site at Nkhuzi hill.
Following the displeasure, the organizations sought an injunction which was granted last week by Judge Mandala Mambulasa.
Commenting on the injunction the traditional leaders led by senior chief Nankumba and a grouping called Forum For Social Economic development of Mangochi ( FOSEMA) said the district is mostly hit by cholera outbreaks due to the use of unsafe water.
The traditional leaders further asked those who obtained an injunction to revoke it in seven days.
On his part, FOSEMA spokesperson Ali Mwachande said the group will be holding vigils in the homes and cottages of people who obtained the injunction.
He said the cottage owners are acting beyond their jurisdiction by stopping the projects that were approved by the chiefs
