Analysts have said the assets declared by some public officers are not giving a true reflection of the property they own.
The remarks come as about 16 000 public officers have declared their assets in the 2022/2023 financial year which have been gazzeted by the Office of the Director of Public Officers’ Declarations.
According to the gazetted assets, President Lazarus Chakwera has two houses, three plots, seven motor vehicles, five bank accounts and one business interest among other things.
The gazette also shows that Vice President Saulos Chilima has two houses, 14 plots, 11 motor vehicles, two business interests and seven bank accounts among other things.
The gazette has not stipulated the exact amounts of money; the assets are worthy.
Commenting on the development – Centre for Social Accountability and Transparency executive director Willy Kambwandira said has he noted elements of under declaration.
According to Kambwandira there also inconsistencies with the assets which were declared in 2014 by the public officers.
