Government responds to Kabambe ideas

Government has dismissed allegations of corruption, nepotism and economic mismanagement raised by UTM President Dalitso Kabambe as unsubstantiated and mere political rhetoric.

In a statement, Shadric Namalomba, the government’s Spokesperson said Kabambe’s remarks during a recent interview on Zbs lacked verifiable facts and evidence.

Government noted that challenges including high public debt, budget deficits, high prices, foreign exchange shortages and food insecurity developed over several years.

Namalomba said the problems were inherited by the current administration under President Peter Mutharika.

However, government has said economic fundamentals have improved since September 2025, with the fiscal deficit narrowing from 12.5 percent to 9 percent of GDP.

Government rejected claims of corruption and nepotism, insisting any accusation must be backed by evidence.

Meanwhile, Namalomba has welcomed constructive criticism but stressed that political debate should not erase measurable progress.

In reaction, Latimu Matenje, a governance analyst has decried the cycle of blame games, urging governments to remain focused on ending social ills people are facing.
