Government has raised salaries for civil servant with 12 percent, it has been confirmed.
In an interview with MIJ Online, Ken Mtonga spokesperson for the department of Human resource management and development said government has increased salaries of civil servants following concerns it has been receiving from civil servants of trade Union on the increase of various commodities.
On when should civil servants expect those new salaries- Mtonga said some will start receiving in May depending on the effectiveness of councils, ministries, and departments.
Earlier this month, the Malawi congress of the trade Union held a meeting with Government Negotiating Team to ask government to increase their salaries by 15 percent.
Mtonga has since said government has increased the salaries by 12 percent.
Reacting to the matter Madalitso Njolomole, Secretary general for Malawi Congress of Trade Union said they are satisfied with the increment saying this will help in improving the living standards of civil servants in the country.
Njolomole said although they proposed 15 percent salary increment to the civil servants due to high cost of living, they are impressed with the 12 percent offered by the government
Currently Njolomole has advised civil servants to continue working hard in order to impress their employer.
