Industry captains have underscored the need for policy interventions that will assist businesses withstand shocks and build resilience for the nation to register economic progress.
Lekani Katandula, immediate-past President for the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry told MIJ Online that prevailing challenges such as climate shocks, macroeconomic imbalances and unfavorable tax regimes continue to pose as a threat to the business environment and therefore calling for urgent redress.
“That is why this year’s conference has been organized under the theme: “Re- engineering Businesses to Withstand Shocks,” underlining the critical importance of adaptability, resilience, and transformation in navigating dynamic economic challenges,” said Katandula
Meanwhile Sosten Gwengwe, Minister of Trade who officially opened the 2024 Business Leaders Summit in Mangochi today, said government is making strides in developing conducive regulatory framework for business operations including the recent Investment and Export Promotion Act and Special Economic Zones Act.
He has however challenged the private sector to take advantage of available opportunities and work hand in hand with government to grow the economy.
“The Ministry is continuing with the reforms aimed at streamlining and innovating business processes in order to efficiently deliver our services to the industry”, said Gwengwe.
