Malawians are being challenged to exercise financial far-sightedness for their personal and national growth.
The call by John Manyike South African based Old Mutual head of financial education, was made when the institution held a public lecture on financial education in Blantyre.
The lecture themed: ‘’Improving My Financial Game’’ hovered around tackling macro-economic issues, consumption and inflation.
Manyike said the way the economic outlook is turning to be for Malawi and the entire world, there is a glaring need for people to venture into other income generating avenues regardless of instances of formal and what would appear to be stable employment.
‘’As you might be aware, we have utilized this engagement to urge people to exercise a culture of saving and managing their resources prudently in the wake of a demanding economy. This also has gains at even the national level,’’ said Manyike.
On his part, one of the patrons, Ashikile Mwakisulu who is a film maker said artists have also drawn huge lessons from the engagement on how they can realize substantial return from the creative industry.
‘’I must say, I have learnt a lot from this lecture. We have been challenged not to be stuck with just fame but invest into sustainable returns which may also help the industry to grow. I leave here having attain knowledge that is quite real and crucial,’’ said Mwakisulu.
