Police in Chitipa District are keeping in custody five men for being found in possession of fake US Dollars with an equal value of 30,100 USD.
The first two suspects have been identified as Mike Sichinga, 28,of Mukule village in the Area of Traditional Authority Katumbi in Rumphi district and Prince Mkandawire, 26, of Matola village in the Area of Traditional Authority Chindi in Mzimba District.
Acting on intelligence driven investigations, Police on April 10,22 arrested the suspects for possessing 301 counterfeit notes of 100 USD totaling 30,100 USD.
During interrogation, the suspects implicated other three more suspects.
The trio includes,’Zacheus Sichali 38,who is a prison warder at Rumphi prison, Godfrey Mwakifwamba, 42 and Edward kayange,41, abusinessman.
They were arrested on April 20 and 22 from various districts.
Analysis done by the Reserve Bank of Malawi has confirmed the alleged currency to be fake
The first two suspects already appeared before court while the remaining three will appear soon.
