The People Over Politics Foundation (PoPF) has given the Registrar General a seven-day ultimatum to finalize its registration as a charitable Trust, failing which it will commence court action on Friday.
Through its lawyers, Maxoreen Attorneys at Law, the Foundation has formally demanded that the Registrar General conclude the process within seven days of receipt of its letter dated 15th September 2026.
In the letter signed by Managing Partner Jefferson Luwa, the lawyers state that they submitted the Foundation’s application for registration on 1st January 2026 but the application has remained on pending approver status since then.
The lawyers say it was only in April 2026 that they were informed of minor corrections required, which were duly effected and resubmitted on 25th April 2026, followed by another follow-up letter on 10th June 2026 that has had no substantive response to date.
“We consider the continued absence of a response, particularly after the requested corrections were duly effected, to be worrisome and prejudicial to our Client’s legitimate interests and expectations,” reads the letter in part.
The Foundation says the delay is directly affecting its ability to implement time-bound charitable programmes, including one aimed at assisting less-privileged students in public universities and colleges.
It further discloses that it has already lost an opportunity to receive laptops meant for less-privileged students after a donor withdrew due to the Foundation’s lack of formal registration.
The lawyers have also cited disparity in the processing of applications, noting that other organisations of a similar nature that applied after PoPF were registered within less than two months.
Despite the standoff, the Foundation says it will go ahead with its launch as planned on 2nd October 2026, arguing that less-privileged students should not be held at ransom because of what it believes are unnecessary delays.
“Our Client’s understanding is that all processes were duly completed and complied with.
“In the absence of registration, or a satisfactory written response setting out the precise reasons for the continued delay within the stipulated period, our Client shall have no option but to pursue such legal and other remedies as may be available to it, without further notice,” Luwa warns.
