A study by Institute of Public Opinion and Research IPOR has found that Civil Society Organisations -CSOs are still struggling in the operations in the country.
This was said when the IPOR was presenting the Civil Society Sustainability Index of 2020.
The index measures how CSOs are faring in their operations.
According to Dr Michael Chasukwa, Deputy Director of Research and Operations at IPOR, CSOs in the country are still facing challenges in terms of financial viability as foreign donors have redirected their funds to government’s efforts to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
Chasukwa said the CSOs are also failing to improve on other areas such as service provision and organizational capacity.
But Chasukwa said the CSOs are doing well in terms of advocacy to influence change.
He cited the demonstrations which led to the change of government in 2020 and the continued engagement of the Public Affairs Committee with the President.
Meanwhile Chasukwa has called on the CSOs to be accountable on how they manage their funds so that they should source more funding from donors.
