Old town rivals. Same flavor. Same venom. Those lines must be treated as such as four city rivals face each other in this year’s Airtel Top 8 cup semifinals, a feat that adds more anticipation for fans.
In Lilongwe, Civil will now have to play cross rivals Silver Strikers while in Blantyre, Mighty Wanderers will play Bullets essentially meaning that this year’s honors will head to one city.
This follows the last quarterfinal matches involving the teams.
The match ups were confirmed during a draw conducted as Bullets beat Mafco 2-1 in the second leg to clinch a 5-2 aggregate win following a 3-1 win in Blantyre two weeks ago.
On the other hand, Mighty Wanderers booked semifinal slot on Saturday after 5-4 post match penalty win following a 1-0 win against Moyale Barracks to level the aggregate.
This means the sides will for the third time meet this year after two league meetings.
Wanderers won the last match 1 nil.
There will be another cracker, the Capital city derby between Silver and Civil.
This is after holders Silver thrashed TN Stars 4-1 in the quarterfinal second leg at Chitowe Stadium, to progress 5-1 on aggregate.
Civil progressed to the semifinal after beating Karonga United 3-1 on aggregate.
The two town rivals drew one all in their most recent league meeting.
The first semifinal clash in Blantyre will be played in the weekend of 5th and 6th of December with the last game in Lilongwe expected a week later.
