Chakwera condemns attempted coup in DRC
Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera has joined global leaders in condemning the recent foiled coup in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Chakwera made the remarks as Malawi is hosting the 9th African Population Conference in Lilongwe under the theme “Road to 2030: Leveraging Africa’s Human capital to achieve transformation in a world of uncertainty”.
Addressing the gathering Chakwera expressed his deep disappointment and concern over the development, describing it as “unfortunate” and a setback for the continent.
According to Chakwera, Africa needs to unite and invest in human capital for its improvement.
He further indicated that the time has come for African countries to work together and find evidence-based solutions for improved livelihoods on the continent.
Meanwhile the United States of America has challenged African countries to invest more in health and education saying that this is key in improving social economic development in the continent.
Speaking to MIJ Online, US Embassy Charge d’Affaires Amy Diaz reaffirmed their commitment to help in rendering their assistance to African countries amidst world environmental uncertainties.
