Govt cautioned on awarding contracts for public works

Government is facing calls to develop a policy framework that will allow inspection of previous works done by companies involved in construction of public infrastructure in the country.

The call by Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives comes the ministry of transport and public works has awarded a contract to China Railway 20 company to construct the Bangula Nsanje railway.

Speaking to MIJ Online, Sylvester Namiwa, Executive Director for CDEDI has said there was need for government to review works done by the company on the Nsanje-Marka road which dissatisfied the people from the surrounding communities.

He has since called for formulation of policies that address such concerns.
