The High Court in Lilongwe has adjourned to a yet to be decided date, the murder trial of Ignat and Amos Katengeza to allow the court to visit the house where their sister, Agnes Katengeza, lived at the time of her death.
The two relatives are accused of causing the death of Agnes Katengeza, who was found dead in Lilongwe on 24 September 2023.
The decision came after in the morning the state paraded two witnesses and later in the afternoon they paraded a third witness.
The third witness who used to be the maid of the deceased, told the court that seeing the compound was key for the court to understand her evidence.
The case is being heard before Justice Bruno Kalemba.
Speaking to MIJ Online after proceedings, State Prosecutor Dzikondianthu Malunda said the visit was not planned in advance, which forced the state to seek for an adjournment.
He added that, on that date, the witness will continue testifying and after she finishes her testimony they will come back to court to continue with other witnesses.
And on his part, one of the Defence lawyer Kavu Banda said that the maid’s account raised practical questions about the layout of the compound and distances that could only be answered on site.
Banda explained that the visit will help both the court and the defence test the credibility of specific parts of the testimony.
