The National bank of Malawi has described sports as an important element in contributing excellence among students pursuing studies in institutions of higher learning.
The remarks were made in Mzuzu when the bank was unveiled as the sponsor of Mzuzu University’s Vice Chancellors Trophy.
Speaking to MIJ Online after announcing the 7-million-kwacha worth sponsorship, Samuel Mzungu National Bank’s Service Centre said the competitiveness involved in various sporting activities promotes discipline and enhances the development of problem-solving skills among students.

Mzungu said considering that students spend much of their time on campus attending to their academic demands, sports therefore provide them a chance to decompress thus revitalising their mental well-being.
Meanwhile, Professor Wales Singini Vice Chancellors of Mzuzu University has hailed National Bank for being a true friend saying the sponsoring of the Vice Chancellor’s Trophy cements the partnership that exist between the two institutions.
According to Prof Singini the sponsorship will also help in the institutions drive to resuscitate sports activities saying the institution has not been able to hold the same since 2018 due to financial challenges.
Singini has further announced of harbouring an ambitious plan to raise from the dead Mzuni FC, the institutions football team that used to compete in the country’s elite league.
Various sports disciplines will compete in the 7 million kwacha Mzuzu University Vice Chancellors Trophy.
