Over half of the inmates who sat for the Malawi School Certificate of Education MSCE examinations in all the prisons across the country, have passed.
This is according to Chimwemwe Shaba, spokesperson for the Prison service who has told MIJ Online that 34 out of 68 inmates that sat for the examinations passed, representing a 50 percent pass rate.
He further disclosed that the best inmate who scored 18 points, is from Mzuzu Prison.
The Malawi National Examination Board has announced that out of 123,808 candidates who sat for MSCE, 63,949 have passed which translates to a 51 percent pass rate, the highest in three years.
Minister of Education, Agness NyaLonje said there is a sharp improvement in the MSCE pass rates as
last year’s percentage was at 41.4.
Nyalonje has described the improved pass rate of MSCE examinations as a true reflection of improved education quality in the country.
