A call has gone out to the Malawi Police Service to arrest people seen in a recent video threatening they will disrupt antigovernment protests due to take place in Lilongwe.
The call comes a few days after violence had marred Bon Kalindo led demonstrations in Blantyre and just a few days before other demonstrations, that are being organized against the high cost of living this coming Friday.
Sylvester Namiwa-Executive Director for CDEDI has told MIJ Online that there is need for authorities to trade carefully with violence that happen during demonstrations.
Meanwhile, Namiwa has challenged the Police to arrest those trying to block the upcoming demonstrations and take to book perpetrators of last week’s violence.
At the moment, the Malawi Congress Party-MCP has distanced itself from violence that marred the demonstrations that were conducted in the country, last week.
Social media reports have been alleging that two groupings-claiming to be for MCP youths, have also ganged up to foil the Friday scheduled protests, organized in Lilongwe by Kalindo.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Maurice Munthali Spokesperson for the MCP, said the party respects the rule of law therefore it has not sent anyone to bar the demonstrations.
