Analysts have said failure by political parties to account for their financiers is leading to corruption due to interests involved.
With this, analysts in the country are of the view that if the practice is not checked then the conduct will continue to fuel corruption among politicians since personal interests are involved.
The sentiments come days after South African based business tycoon Simbi Phiri revealed that he has been personally financing some political parties in the country including the governing DPP and opposition MCP.
However in an interview, a policy analyst-Rafiq Hajat has suggested that it is now high time the country fully implemented laws that are line with political parties having their assets declared.
On his part, Livingstonia University-based analyst, George Phiri said the only problem with politicians in the country is lack of will in publicizing such assistance.
Phiri, therefore, called on political parties to reveal their sources of funding in a bid to eliminate corruption.
“The declaration part of political party funding is important and the parties should take it seriously. This will help to know the country avoiding the financiers from influencing the parties,” he said.
In concurring, Hajat called for concerted efforts by stakeholders to enforce the full-throttle implementation of laws that demand politicians to declare their assets as one possible way of toppling corruption within public officials.
