The future for quality education remains blurry at Mbenjere LEA school due to the lack of decent classrooms at the learning institution.
The primary school which has classes from standard one up to seven, with over seven hundred pupils is situated in Nkhuna village, T/A Liwonde in Ntaja Machinga District.
According to one of the teachers who confided in MIJ Online, the school management had to split a dilapidated shelter to allow nine teachers to use the other half of it as an office.
As that is not enough, the school does not have a head teacherβs office.
When it comes to the learning process, it becomes a problem for the pupils during the rainy season as they are forced to sit on wet muddy floors and under a leaking roof.
βLearners learn in shelters. Things become worse when rains start as it disturbs classes. I am appealing to the government to bail us out of this situation.β pleaded the teacher.
As part of ensuring delivery of quality education- in the 2022-2023 budget, the government has allocated the ministry of education funds amounting to 106.8 billion kwacha for operations of primary and secondary schools including teaching and learning materials.
