The Employers Consultative Association of Malawi has described the year 2021 as tough for Malawians due to among other things various uncertainties and the rising cost of living.
According to George Khakhi, President of Ecam the socio-economic woes the country has faced during the year have made it difficult for most Malawians to uplift their lives.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Khaki noted that the loss of jobs as a result of the pandemic has left many Malawians helpless.
He, also observed that the Covid- 19 pandemic has disrupted industrial operations thereby slowing down production of goods in the country.
Earlier this year, President Lazarus Chakwera told the BBC that the Covid-19 pandemic has cost the country 600 000 jobs since the first cases were reported in April 2020.
In the interview, he insisted that his administration has aggressively cushioned the situation through a number of initiatives, including the Affordable Inputs Programme (AIP).
