Afrimax Limited has moved to launch the country’s lowest internet packages which will allow users rare internet experiences in the country.
Kamar Abass Chief Executive Officer for Afrimax, made the announcement saying Malawi remains one of the countries in the world with the highest cost of internet, which in turn causes low internet usability amongst its populace.
However, Abass is of the view that in order to turn around the current situation, there is need for government to reduce duty on internet gadgets as a cost cutting measure in the provision of internet services to Malawians.
Among others, the Chief Executive Officer, also observed that expensive gadgets like smartphones, is another contributing factor that is preventing most Malawians to have access to the internet.
“The general public in Malawi is spending more as a proportion of their income than almost any population in the world. So, what we would like to see is both prices of Data and devices fall. And of course, the prices devices are influenced with the fact that they are not made in Malawi. of the prices of devices of course is affected because the devices are not made in Malawi.” He said.
These remarks were made on the sidelines of a launch of an Easter Special, the company has introduced.
According to Abass, the Easter Special has been split in three packages, with internet Data bundle validity of up to 30 days.
“Afrimax Easter Special 1000- comes with a SIM and 10 gigabytes at a cost of one thousand kwacha. While Afrimax Special 20, 000- comes with a SIM, a MiFi device plus 20 gigabytes for only twenty thousand kwacha.
