Attorney General, Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda has asked the industrial relations court to reduce a compensation claim for former principal secretary, Christopher Makileni from more than a billion Kwacha to less than 20 million Kwacha.
Initially, the court awarded Makileni 755 Million Kwacha compensation for unfair dismissal from the ministry of local government.
However, in September, 2021 the court quashed the consent order for the compensation and ordered for the re-assessment of the claim after the AG challenged it.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Nyirenda said both parties have re-assessed the claim.
According to the AG his office has asked the court to award Makileni less than 20 million Kwacha from the more than one billion Kwacha he is claiming after the re-assessment.
In 2015, Makileni commenced proceedings against the AG at IRC, claiming that he had been constructively dismissed by the Democratic Progressive Party administration and wanted compensation for four years.
