Eight suspects accused of disturbing peaceful demonstrations by civil servants at Area 18 Memorial Tower in Lilongwe will spend another night in police custody pending finalization of their bail arrangements.
Earlier today, Senior Resident Magistrate Brecious Kondowe granted them bail, setting a bond of K200,000 each with two new sureties bonded at K2 million.
The magistrate ordered the accused to provide details of their residences to facilitate verification by the state and police before their release and later adjourned the case to January next year for trial.
However, in an unexpected turn, three of the suspects appeared before the Chief Magistrate Court, where one of them, identified as Davie Malamulo, is accused of deflating tires belonging to Grace Kwelepetse at Parliament.
George Kazipatika, one of the defense lawyers of the the suspects told MIJ Online online that the suspects identified as Davie Malamulo, Erick Phakamisa, and Mulo Makina will remain in custody until the state files the accusations of the re-arrest.
