The Blantyre City Council has disclosed that it needs over 20 billion Kwacha to rehabilitate all the roads that were affected by Cyclone Freddy and heavy rains that the country received this year.
This is coming at a time, when many roads networks within the city are in bad state.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Engineer Chimwemwe Ndelemani, Director of engineering services at Blantyre City Council says the council already submitted the financial proposal to international partners and government institutions so that the council should be funded to commence the rehabilitation works in the city.
Ndelemani added that, the council is very optimistic that the institutions will support the council to have that needed deficit for the rehabilitation works to commence soon.
However, Ndelemani has hailed the residents of Blantyre for being patient at a time the council was assessing the damage caused by Cyclone Freddy and the heavy rains that the city received.
The council has also disclosed that, equal priority will be given to all the roads networks that are damaged in the vicinity of Blantyre.
