Lanjesi Nkhoma bagged a brace in the first half as FCB Nyasa Big Bullets claimed a spirited 2 nil win over Bangwe All Stars to subsequently open a three-point lead in the TNM Super League.
This was a rare Friday match up took place at Mpira Stadium today and was rescheduled as Bullets heads to Lilongwe to play Silver Strikers marking Kamuzu day celebrations in two days’ time.
The hosts were caught napping when Nkhoma rounded off Fanizo Mwansambo, the side’s captain before making the easiest of tap ins just after 14 minutes.
Bangwe, banking on their promising fan base, were on toes to pull an equalizer. Twice their strikers Michael Tetteh was denied by a towering Richard Chimbamba in goals for Bullets.
But, in a blink of just three minutes, Bullets led again. Nkhoma this time was set up by Maxwell Phodo exposing the hosts questionable defence yet again.
The quick goals forced Mabvuto Lungu to substitute Chimango Kayira and Micheal Tetteh for Emmanuel Lino and James Tambwali.
The Lungu side would have reduced the arrears but with two minutes left of the first half, Robert Saizi shot far wide when he managed to beat defender Alick Lungu.
With ten minutes before the hour mark, but Emmanuel Lino would have scored but he was slower to reach the ball only for Clyde Senaji to clear the ball.
Noticing of the continued pressure, Callisto Pasuwa made changes taking in Anthony Mfune, Precious Sambani, Kenneth Pasuwa, and Gomezgani Chirwa for Phodo, Mike Mkwate, Blessings Mpokera and Lungu.
The substitutes appeared to make meaningful impact Sambani kept the paces in the way of Saizi, by far, Bangwe’s player with most possession.
Mfune’s celebrations at 70 minutes were cut short when he was flagged for offside after he beat the Bangwe defense manned by skipper Mwansambo.
The home side were not finding the needed chances and Bullets claimed the points.
The result means, Bullets remain at the top of the log with 13 points and three ahead of second placed Silver Strikers.
Bangwe remain fourth with 6 points.
Over the weekend, more games continue. On Saturday, Moyale Barracks will host Mighty Mukuru Wanderers at Mzuzu Stadium.
Blue Eagles will play Dedza Dynamos at Dedza Stadium while Karonga United play host to Civil Service United at Karonga Stadium.
