A movement trading under the banner- Giving Tuesday Movement has joined calls for the country to decriminalize suicide attempts.
This comes as parliamentary committee on health, revealed that it will push for decriminalization of suicide attempts as they are mental conditions in the country.
Currently, the country’s laws criminalize suicide.
But speaking to MIJ Online, Charles Sineta Country Leader for the Movement has said there is need for government to introduce deliberate measures that will assist to cushion Malawians from the economic hardships that are contributing to the rise of suicide cases.
“Many resolve to committee suicide because of economic hardships that they are facing in their day to day life, so the best solution is to address the cause of suicide, rather than punishing those who attempt to commit suicide,” said Sineta.
