Court nods to anti-government demos slated for tomorrow

The High Court in Lilongwe has ruled in favour of Bon Kalindo to proceed with his planned demonstrations in Lilongwe tomorrow.
Kalindo took the matter to court after the Lilongwe City Council refused to give a go ahead to his demos saying the City is busy with the SADC industrial week and that Police officers are busy on Friday.
Kalindo will lead the demos tomorrow.

But in his ruling, Justice William Msiska has ruled in favour of Kalindo saying the Lilongwe city council had no powers to make any decision on the notification of demos.

Speaking to MIJ Radio, Willam Chiwaya lawyer representing Kalindo said the court found that only the District council has powers to make a decision on the notification and in absence of that the demos can proceed.
