TNM Super league players will have to adapt to a new normal as fans will not be allowed entry into stadiums due to the Covid19 pandemic, the Super League of Malawi has announced.
The latest move comes in the wake of a directive by the Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19 that gatherings should only have a maximum of 100 people.
In a statement, signed by Williams Banda, General Secretary for the Super League of Malawi, the sports fraternity needs to strongly abide by the latest measures in a national bid to contain the virus.
“All games shall be played under closed sessions of not more than 100 people gathering. We would like to assure all our stakeholders that safety and security at the match venues will be enhanced to ensure that all the measures are adhered to,” said Banda.
Banda has since said that all week 8 matches will proceed as per the fixture with enhanced security to ensure that safety measures are observed.
So far, the country has 1,141 active infections with a total of 7,337 confirmed cases and 5,787 recoveries.
This Friday, Silver Strikers have an opportunity to go top of the standings should they beat a Blue Eagles side at Nankhaka Stadium.
Eagles head into this match having beaten Chitipa United 4 nil last week while the Central Bankers were 5-1 winners over Moyale Barracks.
Silver have not won against the Area 30 side for three seasons now and this promises to be a cracker of a match.
In other fixtures, surprise leaders, Red Lions are up to the central region to face Civil this Saturday, before playing Blue Eagles 24 hours later.
Strugglers, Chitipa United who are bottom of the standings and are yet to earn a win will be in action this weekend facing Ekwendeni Hammers on Saturday and Moyale Barracks on Sunday.
At Kamuzu Stadium, holders Nyasa Big Bullets play host to Ntopwa FC.
