Donors’ interest in financing youth clubs in the country is dwindling due to a sustained failure by the clubs to manage finances, it has been revealed.
The revelation comes at a time when youth clubs and organizations in the country are currently facing challenges to run their projects due to lack of financial support.
Speaking after training youth clubs on resource mobilization and innovation in Mzuzu, Chief Executive Officer of National Youth Council of Malawi Dingiswayo Jere said the way youth organizations handle finances in the country remains questionable and not satisfactory.
“We came up with this program that we need to capacitate youth groups as well as individuals in terms of business development, entrepreneurship but also how to manage simple cashbooks and finances as youth clubs and organizations,” said Jere.
One of the participants, from for Added Power and Understanding in Sex Education (APAUSE) Vanessa Nyirenda said the four-day training has helped her understand issues to do with financial management.
“Through this training, I have discovered that there are some things we overlook when implementing projects, on various methods of fundraising and strategies for seeking funding,” said Nyirenda.
The resource mobilization and Innovation training focused on fundraising challenges and solutions, proposal writing and business innovation and professional development.
