Jane Ansah, the presidential running mate for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has pledged to grant traditional leaders greater authority in local government if the party wins back office this September.
Ansah stated that the party’s ideology was “people-centered” and intended to increase decentralization while visiting Senior Chief Mwaulambya in Chitipa.
She described chiefs as “a vital link between government and the people” and informed the audience that they will be granted more authority over local matters.
The chief emphasized that traditional authorities would back leaders that uphold the rule of law since they are also voters.
