Dress code in public schools under spotlight

The Ministry of Education has said it is expected to conclude consultations on a proposal for a waiver on dress code for learners in public schools by the end of this year.

There have been calls for public primary school male learners be allowed to wear trousers during winter season.

Earlier, child rights activists were of the view that the extreme cold conditions expose pupils to various health risks.

Meanwhile, Chikondano Mussa, Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Education has told MIJ Online that authorities have started doing consultations on the proposal which are expected to be concluded by the end of this year.

Speaking to MIJ, Mussa said the waiver, if adopted will apply to both male and female learners.
