Ecobank Malawi has pumped a sum of MK30 million to power the inaugural Malawi Exporters Awards.
Government has through the Malawi Investment and Trade Centre, MITC lined-up a two-day event at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe to reward best exporters of the year.
The accolades branded Malawi Exporters Awards are the first and aim at contributing towards increasing exports through awareness creation and building export readiness.
The inaugural awards are set for April, 5th and 6th.
MIJ Online understands the awards are to capture across industries both rural and urban to celebrate their contribution in forex earnings through export activities.
Ahead of the event Dr. Raymond Fordwuo, Ecobank Malawi Managing Director has described the sponsorship as their contribution towards the economic development and financial integration of Africa.
“Particularly for Malawi, increasing our export base is critical to the economic stability and growth of our country,” he said adding the African Continental Free Trade Area, AfCFTA still stood a unique and immense export growth opportunities for Malawi’s SMEs and Corporates.
Hence, Fordwuo said the motivation for the bank to support all exporters to make the AfCFTA initiative a success.
On his part Paul Kwengere, Chief Executive Officer for MITC has expressed gratitude with the donation.
“This package is a huge boost for the awards and will go a long in helping Malawi rediscover its export potential from the plenty rare export products,” said Kwengwere.
