Escom disconnects electricity at PTC shops over unpaid bills

Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi-ESCOM has disconnected power to some PTC shops in Blantyre due to non-payment of electricity bills by the company.

This is coming at a time People Trading Centre has been struggling to raise operations capital, with most of its shops running out of stocks.

Recently PTC Managers wrote its previous owners Press Corporation Limited to cancel the share purchase deal with Tafika Holdings Limited as the company seem to have failed to raise purchase capital that the company was banking on to address its current challenges.

Meanwhile ESCOM Public Relations Manager-Kitty Chingota has confirmed to MIJ Online that the corporation has today disconnected five PTC Shops namely Mibawa PTC, Metro Blantyre, SPAR Victoria Namiwawa as well as SPAR PTC.

“We have indeed disconnected some PTC shops in Blantyre due to failure to honour payment commitment” said Chingota.

Chingota however could not disclose the amount of Monday that PTC owes in unpaid bills citing a confidentiality policy with their client.
