Escom needs 2 billion to restore power in Lowershire, Phalombe

The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) has said it will use over K 2 billion to restore power in the lower Shire and Phalombe district.

The disclosure by Innocent Chitosi, spokesperson for Escom comes as some areas in Nsanje- Chikwawa, Chiradzulu and Phalombe have gone two weeks without power because of the damage caused by cyclone Ana.

Chitosi said there is a lot of progress in trying to re-stall power in the affected areas and the work is expected to complete in the next three to four days.

He said the power supplier estimated to use over K2 billion in the work but the figure many go up.
