Communication experts have attributed the underutilization of the digital space by the media in Malawi to limited internet access among the population.
The observation from Jimmy Kainja, a renowned media and communications expert from Malawi University-comes as digital and technological advancements have seen an increase in usage of online for communication and access to information worldwide.
It also comes as the nation joins the rest of the world in commemorating World Press Freedom Day which falls on 3rd May every year.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Kainja said traditional media continues to dominate in Malawi, with trusted internet news sites often stemming from established traditional media outlets.
While stressing on the importance of media organizations to develop sustainable business models to attract advertisers to the digital space, Kainja said the nation must invest more in improving internet access for its citizens to empower the population to engage more actively in the digital space.
