Farmers urged to trade careful on early planting

Farmers in areas that have received the first rains (Chizimalupsya) have been advised to consult agricultural authorities before planting their seeds.

Lucy Mtilatila, Director of the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services, confirmed to MIJ Online at the onset of the rainy season in the country that the experienced rains are just Chizimalupsya.

In an interview, Mtilatila stated that although some areas have received over 100 millimeters of rain, farmers need to seek guidance on whether to plant their seeds.

Meanwhile, Food Security expert Ronald Chilumpha described the first rains as a wake-up call for farmers to mobilize resources for this year’s farming season.

Chilumpha told MIJ Online that farmers should not rush to plant their seeds, saying that the recent rains that some areas have received are insufficient.
