Principal Secretary in the Department of Economic planning Winford Masanjala has said the shortage of forex may persist for a long time as Malawi’s desire for imports continue to exceed the exports capacity.
Currently, the country is failing to procure essential products due to forex shortage that has even hit the health sector as government is facing challenges procuring medicines due to forex unavailability.
Speaking after meeting the budget and finance committee of Parliament on Thursday, Masanjala said the forex shortage may persist as currently the country has no short-term measures to addressing the problem.
Masanjala said the country is running out of forex reserves as the it is not producing and exporting goods that much.
