Sunday promises to be a memorable day for the theatre-loving base as the capital Lilongwe is to witness the birth of Waz Arts – a theatre ensemble.
And the setting is Golden Peacock, where prolific journalist, Suzgo Chitete will be returning to the theatrical stage years after quitting drama to concentrate on life in the newsroom as a journalist.
But he isn’t the lone one returning to stage drama.
Another one is Jeremiah Mwaungulu, a beacon on which late Gertrude Kamkwatira founded her now defunct Wanna Do Ensemble Theatre.
And there’re many other names of theatrical integrity to stare as the drama group premieres its play Bwabwa lala most whom built their names in such grounds of repute as: Tikuferanji, Nanzikambe, Wanna Do and Wakhumbata Ensemble Theatres.
In an interview with MIJ Online, Chitete said the play Bwabwa lala was a “political satire depicting the prevailing political landscape of the country”.
So far, he said, he was impressed with the level of preparation, commitment, thirst and hunger on the part of the cast to showcase what theatre lovers have been starved-off for years.
“Actually, everyone is excited at the hype that has been created. And we are all set for the big day and beyond,” said Chitete.
