The Malawi Human Rights Commission has criticized government over delay to recruit and publish names of Information officers in various departments in line with Access to Information Act of 2017.
The act became operational in 2020, but up to date government through the ministry of Information is yet to release names of information officers as required by law.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Habiba Osman Executive Secretary for Malawi Human Rights Commission says the Commission has been receiving queries from the general public about the challenges faced by the citizenry when it comes to accessing information in several government departments.
According to Osman, lack of information officers in government agencies is infringing the citizenry rights to information.
