The Ministry of forestry and Natural resources anticipates to plant at least forty million trees as President Lazarus Chakwera is set to launch the 2021/2022 tree planting season in Dowa on 12 January next year.
According to a Statement signed by Dr Clement Chilima, Director of Forestry in the Ministry of Forestry and Natural Resources the trees are expected to be planted in Government and private plantations, community woodlots, orchards, around homesteads and along the lakeshore and river banks throughout the country.
Speaking to MIJ Online Chilima said the season is expected to run from 15th December 2021 to 15th April, 2022 and the theme for this season is “Healthy Trees, Forests, Economy and People”.
He said the theme resonates with the harsh pandemic and economic period that the country is going through, where trees and forests can have a positive role.
