HRDC leader into hiding over death threats

Vice Chairperson for Human Rights Defenders Coalition in the Northern region, Walita Moir has gone into hiding as suspected politicians are baying for his blood.

It is said that an unregistered vehicle was suspiciously seen moving around his premise just a day before thugs attacked his home.

Moir is on the run.

The vocal activist had openly faulted politicians for fuelling violence in series of protest by the organization.

Speaking to MIJ Online, while in hiding, Moir claimed that politicians are behind the series of attacks on his life.

“They have been warning me against organizing demonstrations, and it is obvious they are the ones hunting me down,”.

Moir who did spend the Sunday night at his home further said he will continue fighting for people’s rights through collective voice in the demonstrations.

Moir has since reported the issue to Rumphi police station, although his whereabouts are not known.
