Illicit construction under spotlight

The Land Governance Alliance (LAGA) has urged government on the need to take a firmer stance on enforcing laws against individuals who construct infrastructures in illegal areas.

The call comes amid the government’s ongoing demolition of illegal structures at Areas 43 and 12 in Lilongwe.

Speaking to MIJ Online, Jolly Kenan, a member of the Board of Trustees of LAGA has urged the government to be proactive rather than being reactive in taking action on individuals who construct infrastructures in illegal areas.

Kenan  believes it is unfortunate that Malawians are still wasting money building infrastructures in illegal places yet government has been demolishing illegal infrastructures in the country.
