Illovo Sugar Malawi has disbursed K71.3 million to 31 female students pursuing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programmes at the Malawi University of Science and Technology during the current academic year.
Illovo Sugar Malawi has invested K500 million into the fund since 2023 to provide sustainable financial support to deserving students, with priority given to young women in STEM.
Illovo Sugar Malawi Human Resources Director, Khumbo Ntambo-Banda said: “This is more than a scholarship. It is an investment in talent, in opportunity, and in the belief that a young woman’s potential should never be limited simply because her family cannot afford university fees.”
The scholarship also marks the legacy of outgoing MUST Vice Chancellor Professor Address Malata, who Illovo credits with driving the partnership that established the endowment fund.
