The Malawi National Council of Sports has named Inkosi ya Makhosi Gomani V Ambassador for the Sports for All Program.
Sport for All is designed to promote and encourage sport participation by all Malawians regardless of gender, ability, age and at the same time raise awareness on the importance and benefits of taking part in sport and physical activities.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, MNCS Board Chairperson Dr Sunduzwayo Madise said they opted for Gomani given the influence his leadership has and the youthful appeal he would bring in the popularization of the program.
‘’Gomani has a good reputation and the appeal we want to be associated with the program. Our belief s therefore that given all that plus his leadership, there will be more participation of people in all sporting disciplinaries, regardless of any boundaries, ’’he said.
According to Madise, the program has strong sights on helping people suffering from mental health to prevent committing suicide through the programs ideas sharing aims.
On his part, Gomani was quick to describe the appointment as an honor, a thing he says will drive him into ensuring that sport is reaching to all people.
‘’I will take the role to engage Members of Parliament and other authorities so that we make all games accessible to people across the country. We need to appreciate the economic, physical and social impact that sport has on people. That is what we must cultivate a change that will also help our country have people that are physically and mentally fit,’’ said Gomani.
The program’s is hinged on a belief by the council that sport helps the citizenly have strong bodies which resist to diseases which occur because an individual is not physically active which can contribute positively to the national development agenda.
