An emphasis has been made on the need for institutions and the citizenry to up efforts in tree planting exercise to conserve the environment.
The emphasis comes as Sustain Green Malawi campaigners partnered with General Alliance and Beit Cure international to plant trees and Michiru hill in Blantyre yesterday.
The Sustain Green campaign is being conducted by a group of youths with an aim to plan 1 million trees in 24 months across the country for reforestation.
Pamela Mazengela-Corporate Affairs Manager for General Alliance told MIJ Online that they decided to support the initiative by donating trees as a way of giving back to the environment.
“Our main reason of doing this is that we thought this is one way of giving back to our environment, as you know many people know how to cut trees but they don’t plant trees.
We thought it is important us as Insurance companies who sale insurance for vehicles we thought this is a good initiative to give back to the environment” Said Mazengera
Meanwhile Tandulenji Zimba-Head of Human Resource and Administration for Beit Cure International underscored the importance of planting trees to carter for ever-growing demand of the same that have come due to population growth.
According to Zimba, Beit Cure international as a Christian hospital also realizes the role man was given by God to care for the environment.
“We are a Christian hospital and as such we realize our responsibilities towards nature. We realize that God created man to take care of nature therefore we wanted to make sure we are part of this exercise” Zimba said
