Freedom of Worship Association of Malawi-FOWAM members in the Eastern region have joined a recent drum up for support for the grouping’s leader Prophet David Mbewe to compete for presidency in the next general polls.
The endorsement comes barely a week after a southern region-based membership also made a similar call.
Speaking at a recent engagement, a couple of FOWAM members in Jali, Zomba, said they feel Mbewe has demonstrated effective and prudent political manners deserving to lead Malawians.
On his part, an influential leader Justin Mokowa who has held political positions in the United Democratic Front and run the race for parliamentary seat under Phalombe North said the endorsement is justifiable.
‘’We really need someone of Mbewe’s caliber to come to the fore and address people’s concerns such as the rise in the cost of living and social disparities. This has quite well been demonstrated by Mbewe who leads a variety of religious leaders in unison’’ he said.
The ceremony was attended by faith leaders drawn from various affiliation in the wake of the momentum that the grouping is garnering.
Earlier on, Mbewe was coy on whether he will give in or not.
But, he is among six other candidates earmarked to take the reins of power within the former ruling Democratic Progressive Party.
